Dr. Ramu Chalasani was raised in Southern Louisiana, and considers himself a true southern gentleman. Indeed, he has spent most of his life there. He left home to explore other parts of the country and the world as he pursued his education.

First, he attended and graduated from Boston University with a BS in Aerospace Engineering. By the time he was nearing the end of his undergraduate years, he had found his love of medicine, and he traveled to India, obtaining his medical degree from Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangalore, India.

He returned to Louisiana and completed his Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology Fellowship at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. His travels and his diverse medical education have allowed him to bring the two worlds of medicine together both with patients and in academia to great success. In 2004, he was the American College of Gastroenterology Governor’s award recipient for Excellence in Clinical Research. He was also recognized for his research linking diabetes to cancer which was reported in USA Today as well as WebMD.
