WHAT TO EXPECT?
After scheduling an EGD or colonoscopy, you will receive a call, text, email, or portal message with procedure details and instructions on how to view your estimated physician cost in Healow.

How will I know what I owe?
Most patients receive 4 or 5 bills from separate entities associated with the procedure. We can only quote the physician portion.
• Physician fees: the doctor's portion of the procedure. Statements are issued under Gastroenterology Partners of North Houston.
• Facility fees: billed by the hospital or ambulatory surgery center and usually collected by the facility.
• Anesthesia: filed to insurance first; any remaining responsibility is billed after processing.
• Pathology/lab: billed separately if a polyp is removed or biopsies are taken.
Estimated quotes are only estimates. Payment is due before your procedure. Our office will contact you before the procedure if physician fees are owed. Amounts may change if polyps are removed or biopsies are taken.
Colonoscopy
Insurance categories:
• Diagnostic/Therapeutic: GI symptoms, prior polyps, GI disease, or anemia.
• Surveillance/High Risk Screening: no active GI symptoms, but personal/family history of GI disease, colon polyps, or cancer; no colonoscopy in the last 10 years.
• Preventive Screening: age 45+, no GI symptoms, and no personal or family history of GI disease, colon polyps, or cancer.
Important: If a polyp or tissue is removed for pathology testing, pathology charges may not be covered as preventive screening.

EGD (Esophagogastroduodenoscopy)
An EGD evaluates the upper GI tract to look for causes of symptoms. It is mainly diagnostic, but can also be therapeutic.
During the exam, your physician may look for inflammation, tumors, ulcers, and other abnormalities in the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum.
Small tissue samples (biopsies) may be collected for lab analysis to help diagnose anemia, bleeding, inflammation, diarrhea, H. pylori, and upper GI cancers.
Results
Results are typically reviewed at your scheduled follow-up visit, which should be at least 14 days after your procedure.
